Jabbawockeez in America's Best Dance Crew

Jeff Nguyen

Twenty-six-year-old Jeff “Phi” Nguyen was born in Phoenix, Arizona but moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue his dance profession. He started dancing when he was 15-years-old. He makes a living by being a dancer and a hip-hop instructor. He also coaches in two dance conventions which travel around US cities during weekend. Aside from dancing, he is also talented in playing the guitar. His dancing idols are people from his personal life like his best friend Ryan and his own crew members . God, family and friends are his sources of inspiration. This guy is fun to be with. He often goes around joking: “I like Vietnamese Pho! I'm a Virgo and like long walks on the beach! I'm single and ready to mingle! If you'd like, you can call me at 1-800-Vietnamese tease!”

Rynan Shawn Paguio

Rynan Shawn Paguio is a twenty-six-year-old from San Diego, California. This professional dancer started break-dancing with his brothers and friends at the age of 11. He was living in Murrieta then. Aside from dancing, he also takes pleasure in singing and playing the guitar. He names a number of dancing idols including Ken Swift, Crazy Legs, Stormy Mauritzo, Swif Rock, Flo-Master, Poe-One, Poppin Pete, Mr. Wiggles, Poppin Taco, Sugar Pop, Skeeter Rabbit and Gee-One. But his sources of inspiration are down to 4: God, his family, Gary Kendell and his crew, Jabbawockeez. Paguio is of Filipino descent and was married November 24, 2007.

Ben Chung

Twenty-six-year-old Ben “B-Tek” Chung hails from Mission Hills, California. He started dancing when he was about to graduate from high school. Chung is also an aficionado of Fight Night Round 3 on Xbox. He pays his bills by teaching dance classes and by working as a performer in the industry. For him, his dancing idols are his very own crew. His source of inspiration is music. The mixture of beats, lyrics and rhymes create special feelings and stir him to move. This born-again Christian is proud to announce that in everything he does, the reason and motivation behind them is to glorify the One up above.

Kevin Brewer

Kevin Brewer is a thirty-one-year-old dancer from Sacramento, California. He earns a living as an expert on MAC computers as he is an Apple Certified Technician. Aside from being on the dance floor, he also enjoys producing music and being an emcee. Brewer’s sources of inspiration are God, his family, Bruce Lee and his crew. He also has a thing for Mexican food. Brewer likes to inspire and be inspired. Considering that life is fleeting, he takes pleasure in connecting with people and enjoying moments with individuals in his life. He says he entered Dance Crew with an open mind and is excited to see how God will move him through the experience.

Phil Tayag

Phil Tayag grew up as a garage dancer in Sacramento, California. Aside from dancing, this twenty-three-year-old father of two is also talented in creating music. He looks up to Gary Kendall, Michael Jackson and his crew as his dancing idols. On the other hand, God, his family and life itself are the sources of encouragement and motivation for him. In joining Dance Crew, he hopes that his crew Jabbawockeez would get an honest exposure that they deserve. Asked on whom his favorite fellow crew member is, Tayag answers that he prefers no one because he sees everyone equally and treats them all as favorites.

Chris Gatdula

Chris Gatdula hails from Las Vegas, San Diego. This 26-year-old Taurus graduated with a degree in New Media Emphasis, majoring in film and video production. He regularly works as a dance instructor to pay for his daily financial needs. Aside from dancing, he is also gifted in video editing and graphic designing. His favorite sport is snowboarding. To get inspired, he constantly reminds himself not to fall behind his crew and he always strives to keep up with them. It is also important for him to stay on top of his game. His dancing idols are his crew and Full Force. He also admires the dancing skills of Gary Kendall.

Jabbawockeez is a finalist for MTV’s 2008 reality talent search Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew; where hip-hop dance groups from all over US compete for the prize money and for the opportunity to be given a touring contract.

Born and raised in Phoenix Arizona, Phi began his dancing at the age of 16. His first professional job was at the age of 18. One year later at age 19 he moved to LA to persue his career as a professional dancer/choreographer. Since moving to LA he has been a well respected HIPHOP instructor at some of LA's most prestigious performing arts centre such as "The edge PAC, Millenium dance complex, Debbie Renolds" along with touring dance conventions such as "urban jam, monsters of hiphop". Not only is Phi respected as an instructor but also as a dancer. His dancing booked him jobs working with artist like the "pussy cat dolls, run dmc" also workin on an ice breaker gum commercial. In 04 Phi joined the Jabbawockeez. Since dancing with the world famous Jabbawockeez phi's dance career has gone from dancer to "artist".

Las Vegas, NV
Born in the Philippines and raised in Hawaii, where he first started dancing at the age of 8 yrs old. Cristyle was heavily inspired by Beat Street and Michael Jackson, but who wasn't at that time? He moved to Las Vegas in 93 where he got into a freestyle dance crew called Ladi Dadi in 95-96. Fun times! The crew slowly died and he got into a bboy crew called Full Force in 97. Cristyle is also one of the original members of the elite Super Cr3w. After High School he moved to San Diego to go to college. Cristyle started getting into Hip Hop choreography with a company called Culture Shock San Diego in 2001. Being in Culture Shock also introduced him to some really talented bboys/freestylers and they ended up joining forces to create Jabbawockeez in 2003. Cristyle graduated from UCSD in 2006 and moved to Los Angeles to pursue his passion for dance.

Rynan "Kid Rainen" Paguio

Rynan (RAINEN) Paguio started dancing at the early age of 12 as a bboy (break dancer). He was inspired by crews from the early eighties and nineties: Rock Steady Crew, Battle Squad, Air Force Crew, and NYC breakers. He started dancing professionally at age 18. Since then he has danced and competed with some of the best bboys, and hip hop dancers in the world. Winning worldwide events, and guest performing at many worldwide shows. Rainen has danced for many professional recording artists such as Nelly Furtado, Missy Elliott, Chingy, Ludacris, Neyo, Leona Lewis, Pussycat Dolls and Gwen Stefani and has done industrials for companies such as Adidas, Nike, Pizza Hut, Mitsubishi, Anheuser Bush, and Skechers.

He has worked in films such as How She Moves and Step Up 2: the Streets where he showed his diversity in dance through stepping, hip hop choreography, and bboying. He trained with some of the best bboys/hip hop dancers in the world like Flo Master(7 GEMS/Footwork Fanatix), Poe ONe(Style Elements/Rock SO Fresh), and Gary Kendell(Mindtricks/Jabbawockeez).

He always remains a student and loves learning the history of the dance. Knowing where each dance comes from, the style of the dance, and when it was made. Hip hop dance is an evolving dance that has a foundation but leaves you free to make your own style. Without foundation a house will crumble. Without style you have no soul.

Joe "Emajoenation" Larot

Joe started his performing arts dream at the age of 7 for a cultural arts program called Sinag-tala Filipino Theater and Performing Arts Association. At the age of 13, he and a group of friends decided to start a dance crew. At the age of 18, he began his teaching career making his way out of rehearsing in a garage into a studio environment. Performing around local events and teaching his style to other aspiring dancers, he honed his skill and passion for dance. Since then, Joe has been affiliated with groups such as K.a.b.o.o.m squad, Mindtricks, and Culture Shock San Diego. In 2003, he collaborated with his friends in San Diego to form Jabbawockeez. In 2005, he assisted Phil Tayag in co-directing the dance group, "Boogie Monstarz", and following the next year, Joe went on to direct his own dance group, "Press P.L.A.Y" alongside with his co-directors Brandon Greathouse and Jason Magsuci. He is currently managing his time with Jabbawockeez, Press P.L.A.Y., and his family especially his wonderful daughter. His goal is to keep pushing innovative choregraphy and to inspire the next generation with his talents and experiences he has developed so far in his life.

I am a hip-hop instructor and dancer for a living. I also instruct on two dance conventions that travel to different U.S. cities on the weekends.

This is tough because we each contribute in a way that is necessary to the whole. I honestly can say that all my bros are my favorite.

I like to inspire and to be inspired. Connecting with people is something I enjoy also, because life is fleeting, we should build each other up and fellowship and enjoy one another. I like Mexican food too.
